Market Place and London Road Works to Start Soon

Major work to improve Kegworth Market Place will start on 18 March and last around 3 months (ending before the Download Festival in June).

The plans have been shaped by public feedback and include:

  • Reopening a southern one-way entrance (the northern end will remain two-way)
  • A new parking layout with the same number of spaces
  • New benches, planting and parking for bikes
  • Wider pavements and a pedestrian crossing point across Derby Road towards the church

During the alterations there will be no parking at any time of day on Market Place itself, with temporary lights and single file traffic on Derby Road.

Every effort will be made to minimise any disruption. Vehicle access to The Croft will remain and pedestrians will still have access to all businesses on Market Place. Bus services and routes will be unchanged.

It's hoped to keep the layby parking by the bus stop open, but there may be times when the bays have to close for health and safety reasons as the work progresses.

Parking spaces will be still available on Market Place Road past the church. All people parking there will be asked to limit their stay to one hour, out of courtesy to others.

As part of the same scheme and starting at the same time, the pavement will be built out on London Road out of Kegworth, creating a single lane 'give and take' passing point to slow traffic. Temporary lights will also be in place for these alterations, plus a push button pedestrian crossing near New Brickyard Lane.

Please take all these changes into consideration when planning journeys. Other existing parking points will still be available, including at Kegworth Village Hall.

This work is part of a major investment in the village, funded by the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership, the District Council and Kegworth Parish Council. The project is being managed by NWLDC and delivered by Leicestershire County Council.

The overall project covers four different pieces of work in Kegworth: new road gateways into the village (completed), relocation of the southbound Market Place bus shelter (completed), the Market Place alterations, and the changes to London Road.
